Hotel Review: Hotel Acadia – Quebec City, Canada
Hotel Acadia, in the historic center of Quebec City inside the city walls, is the perfect accommodation for budget travelers who like a little bit of luxury.
I paid a very fair price for a city-center hotel suite that included a full kitchen. Everything I wanted to do in Quebec City was within walking distance of the hotel. So, the nominal extra money I spent on the room was balanced by the central location and ability to cook my own meals.
If you are planning a visit to Quebec City, consider staying at Hotel Acadia. Here is my full review.
The Location
Within walking distance from Hotel Acadia are many of the top sites to see, including the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac and Dufferin Terrace, Place Royal, and the Funicular.
There is no shortage of things to do near Hotel Acadia. Rue Saint Louis, right around the corner, is packed with plenty of restaurants to try. A few blocks away, Rue Saint-Jean has even more restaurants, bars, and shops.
Address: 43 Rue Sainte-Ursule, Québec City, Canada
The Property
On Rue Sainte-Ursule, Hotel Acadia occupies multiple buildings, or pavilions, on each side of the street. I checked into the hotel in the lobby in one building and walked across the street to get to the building my room was in.
The rooftop “spa” was really just a hot tub, but I had the chance to enjoy it for one night before I moved on. The open-air spa is covered, so even on rainy or foggy nights (like the night I used it), it’s the perfect place to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
The Room
I didn’t expect the assigned room, or perhaps I didn’t read through the description well enough. Either way, I was pleased to find a kitchen stocked with the tools I needed to prepare my own meals during my stay.
Provided are basic kitchen supplies, including pots and pans, dish towels, utensils, bowls, plates, and glasses. I found a small corner store where I picked up a box of spaghetti and a sauce jar, which fed me for days.
Elsewhere in the room was a comfortable full-size bed with a side table, a tall dresser, a couch, a dining table, small tv (that I never used), and a teeny tiny bathroom.
I loved, loved, loved the exposed brick wall and the shutters on the windows.
What I Did Not Love
My only complaint is the tiny size of the bathroom. I swear I hit my elbows on the wall every time I brushed my teeth or did my hair. It was pretty uncomfortable.
Plus, it didn’t match up to the photos of spacious bathrooms on the website.
Things to do Near Hotel Acadia
I crammed a lot into one week in Quebec City. I visited Le Monastere des Augustines twice in one week. Once for a delicious and affordable lunch (after an exclusive tour and yoga class) and then again for a
Some of my other favorite memories of the week include walking Dufferin Terrace and taking in the view of the Chateau Frontenac, exploring Place Royal and Petit Champlain, spending a sunny afternoon at Montmorency Falls, and a food tour of Ile d’Orleans.
