Hotel Review: Park Plaza Lodge – Los Angeles, CA
The Park Plaza Lodge sits in a central location, not far from what most tourists want to see in Los Angeles, at a price point that won’t leave your wallet empty. If you’re not fussy about looks and just need a place to sleep at night, consider staying here.
Here is my full review of Park Plaza Lodge in Los Angeles, California.
The Location
Address: 6001 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90036
The location of Park Plaza Lodge was THE selling point for me. It’s right in the center of the La Brea neighborhood of Los Angeles, which is pretty much in the center of everything.
It’s about ten miles from LAX, less than four miles from Hollywood Blvd, and just a mile away from the only site I had my heart set on seeing while in LA for just 24 hours. The Urban Lights installation at the LA County Museum of Art.
Also in this neighborhood is The Grove outdoor shopping mall, the Original Farmers Market, and the La Brea Tarpits.
The Property & Room
Besides the bed with a mattress made out of heaven, there isn’t anything to rave about the property or the room. It’s a no-frills motor lodge with painted cement block walls and the bare essentials. The entire property, including the sparse decorations, the dark furniture, and oversized curtains, was all dated and in need of a good cleaning.
That bed, though! I was so exhausted after a long final day at the Women In Travel Summit, exploring the Urban Lights installation, and grabbing a late dinner, I was out cold by the time my head hit the pillow.
The Little Extras
The staff at Park Plaza Lodge were friendly and accommodating. I checked out of the hotel several hours before my flight back to Boston and they do not have a separate luggage storage area. The clerk offered to hold my suitcase behind the desk for the day so I could explore without lugging it around. Strong, free wifi and cable on the large flat-screen television were also much appreciated.
What I Did Not Love
The entrance to my room was through a door in the courtyard located in the back of the building. I had to pass through an alleyway that wreaked of cigarette smoke and the smoky smell continued into the hallway of my room.
